We
need people to do many different tasks. If you do not
want to build, there is still plenty to do.

Do
you provide child care?
Yes,
ages 3-9 only (potty trained please). Unfortunately
we can't provide for children under 3.
Can I
Leave To Pick Up My Kids?
Yes! We are
building this playground for our children, and we realize
that many of you do have families and obligations. Please
let your supervisor (captain or committee head) know
when you will have to leave and when you will return
so that they can ensure that provisions are made if necessary.
Can I
Work A Partial Shift?
Yes. We will try
to be as flexible as possible. However, that being said,
we do prefer that you work a full shift so that we can
keep to the construction schedule planned by Leathers & Associates.
Each shift is a 4 hour slot of time.
Do I Need
To Sign Up In Advance?
No, you do not
need to sign up in advance. However, we hope that you WILL
sign up in advance since that will help us to determine
how many workers we will need to feed, how many children
we will need to care for, etc.
Do I Need
To Live In Lake County To Participate?
No! Anyone and everyone
is welcome at the build.
How Will
I Know Where To Go/What To Do?
When you sign in
at the Volunteer table, workers there will determine your
area of interest and help you get where you need to go.
Once in the appropriate area, captains/committee heads
will explain your task and help you get situated. Feel
free to ask questions at any time. All captains/committee
heads will wear colored t-shirts for easy identification.
If you want to help build, you will be assigned to a team
of 3 or 4 persons. Each team has ONE skilled worker and
2 or 3 unskilled workers. You will work with your team
to complete tasks assigned by a captain.
Who Is
A Captain?
A captain is an
individual who commits to be part of the build from 7am
to 9pm for the duration of the build or a good part of
it. Captains are assigned different areas of responsibility
by our Site Supervisors from Leathers & Associates.
If you are interested in being a captain, please email
Linda Harding at 352-243-9113. Captains will help their
teams by assigning tasks, ensuring quality, and helping
wherever necessary. This is a special job requiring much
dedication.
What Should
I Wear?
Work clothes appropriate
for the weather. Remember that we do build even if it is
rainy, so please come prepared. If you are building, please
wear work clothes. Open-toed shoes are not permitted on
the work site. Do not wear jewelry, but do bring a hat
in case of sun or rain.
What
ages are appropriate to volunteer?
We invite children
10 years and older to be a part of building the park.
Children under 16 will be placed on a project with an
adult (if a parent is on-site building, the child will
be placed with their parent).
What Should
I Bring?
If possible, every
volunteer should bring a toolbox to the build. Your toolbox
should include:Hammer, Nail Apron, Pencil, Safety goggles,
Tape measure, Utility knives, Work Gloves, Wrench all types,
3/8 inch Drill, Garden Rake (Sat & Sun), Shovel (Sat & Sun)
If you don’t own/have these items it's no problem,
we will have extra tools to go around. We just suggest
that you bring your own for your convenience.
